What an honour it was to receive an Eco Award from @bawbawsustainabilitynetwork last night along with so many other local heroes who have spent their lives trying to make a difference. It means a lot to be recognised by an organisation full of people with so much dedication and diverse knowledge and skills, many of whom I’ve connected with over the years to work on various projects. It’s a bit like a jigsaw puzzle of everyone doing their little bits and connecting with each other to make a whole. I don’t think the organisers anticipated how emotional and rewarding the night would be but it was lovely, and we all recognise that there are so many more people out there just getting on with grassroots action for a better world. I love that all the frames were op shopped and that the goodies bag was made by @boomerangbagsbawbaw which contained home grown fruit and plastic free personal care products. I can’t recommend this group highly enough for anyone in Baw Baw Shire wanting to find a tribe that cares about people and the planet.

I’ve been busily working away on getting all the details together for my Women Against Waste event coming up in September and the Poowong Pickers Festival in October. These events are all about reuse and today I managed to gather the final pieces of cutlery and crockery needed to cater for afternoon tea from the op shops. ☕️ I deliberately sort out the cups and plates and spoons to reuse that might be less attractive to others, either because they’re old fashioned, not part of a matching set, a bit ugly, or whatever. I hope attendees enjoy the random nature of what they’re served with and that it makes people think more about reuse. 😊 . This is my makeup kit bought 16 years ago! I remember when I bought it because it cost me a fortune at the time. As you can see I have minimal make up and only wear it on special occasions for it to last this long. It is starting to run out though (especially the mascara) and I would like to add a lip tint, and maybe a concealer as well. I looked up the brand of eyeshadow and blush to see if they still have products in cardboard packaging but it seems they don't. Any-who, I'd like to know what zero waste, low tox make-up brands you use and how they perform for you? Hit me with your recommendations please. 😊

Is anyone else completely hooked on the BBC TV program, The Repair Shop, on @abctv ? 🥰 This is my new late night ‘unwind’ TV. Movements like minimalism and zero waste can leave us thinking that possessions mean nothing at all but this program reminds us that our things can hold significant meaning for people and that so much joy can come from cherishing them. We just need to remember that we don’t need so many things to be happy. I also love all the traditional skills on display.
