Off to celebrate my nieces 1st and 3rd birthdays 🍰 today. I got them tickets to the Possum Magic production at the @westgippslandartscentre. Previously we’ve given miss three tickets to the Play School concert. At first I thought finding experiences for little kids would be difficult but of course it’s not, there’s heaps of stuff out there for littlies and families to enjoy. #experiencesnotstuff

So many reusable cups and water bottles in the op shop. But if they don’t get reused they’re not sustainable! Please choose wisely when purchasing items and try not to get sucked into ‘upgrading’ or buying new just because you found something better. Use it until you can’t use it, then repair or replace. I understand that some of these things might have been for children that have outgrown them and you can’t find new homes for them so they were donated, or you somehow found yourself with more than you need so you decluttered, but these are all things we can think about when acquiring items and perhaps choose differently next time. This is also why, if you’re looking for a reusable cup or water bottle, you should consider looking for it secondhand first.

You know, I really enjoy creating opportunities for people to come together and make a difference. I've just listed the first of the garage sales for the @poowongpickers festival and I'm so excited for this family friendly fun day that allows people to have many of their needs met without buying new items and gives others the satisfaction of rehoming items they no longer need; avoiding landfill and the hassles of rehoming in other ways. I always get feedback from sellers and buyers/browsers that everyone enjoys this day so much! Yes, there's the thrill of the hunt and the ability to make some cash, and we can all feel good about doing something positive for the environment, but I think the biggest reason people enjoy it is because of the community connection. There’s a link in my bio to the garage sale trail so far in Poowong. It will be updated right up until the event. Sunday 20th October, 8.30am - 12pm

It's that time of year again where I evaluate everything in our home. 🧐 I rehome whatever we don't need any more, 👚🛴🎲🍼🏑repair what needs to be fixed, 🥽⚒ ✂️I also repurpose old things into new useful things, and give everything a thorough Spring clean. 🧼🚽🧺🧹 It's all very satisfying. 🥰🤩Over the years my concern for the environment, frugal inclinations, and my science background have led me to whittle-down my household cleaning products to just: 1) Bar soap that is either package free or packaged in cardboard, and 2) Kombucha vinegar which I brew myself from loose leaf tea in place of buying white vinegar. These two cleaners used in combination with the right scrub and cloth are effective, non-toxic, frugal, minimalist and zero waste. The full details of my household cleaning are in my latest blog.
