The gut health presentation I went to earlier this week by @drpeterdingle has encouraged me to try green tea again (I tried years ago but was like 🤮). So today I tottered down to my local mini bulk store @udderandhoe in Loch and filled up my homemade bulk tea bag. And you know what, I actually really enjoyed my green tea ☕️ this afternoon! 🤷🏻‍♀️ Pretty sure I can keep this up, along with the 1/2 teaspoon of bicarb soda first thing every morning and 10ml of raw vinegar. 💃🏼 I’m determined to shut down RA and regain some vitality. 💪🏻 . . . . #zerowaste #bulkisbeautiful #plasticfree #RAsucks #guthealth #lowtoxlife #gutmicrobiome #goingzerowaste #zerowastelife #sustainability #ethicalpurchase #supportlocal #ecofriendly #gippsland #southgippsland #loch #udderandhoe #greentea #bulktea
I was never a fan of jerky until I tried my friend’s homemade version which was delicious. So I’ve made my own jerky (beef marinated and dehydrated) to take on my 3 day hike as a snack. It’s lightweight, will store well in a 🎒 backpack for several days, and is a good source of protein and sodium. It will last for about three months in an airtight jar in a cool dark place. This beef is from a steer raised and butchered by us. . . #zerowastehiking #hikingadventures #bushwalking #homemadebeefjerky #beefjerky #hikingfood #womenwhohike #gippsland #gippslandbeef #homegrownbeef #homebutchery #optoutdoors #growwhatyoueat #eatwhatyougrow #hiking #destinationgippsland #visitgippsland #inspiredbygippsland
Starting my food prep for a zero waste multi day hike in a couple of weeks. I don’t want to leave it till the night before this time 🤦🏻‍♀️ and I want to try some new things. Starting with homemade scroggin (trail mix), no recipe, just throwing together dried fruit, nuts, seeds, and chocolate bought from bulk bins, and these walnuts, which I collected when we camped at Dargo. Keeping it in a jar until I pack, with extra for future spontaneous bush walks. #inspiredbygippsland #gippsland #visitgippsland #womenwhohike #hikingadventures #hikingfood #scroggin #trailmix #bushwalking #zerowaste #goingzerowaste #wastenot #zerowastelife #plasticfree #zerowastehiking #getoutdoors #naturelove #optoutdoors #dargowalnuts
Don’t cut down the tree, build up the kid! My experience is that parents and guardians overly concerned with 'risk' view nature as fraught with danger. The perceived risks become a barrier to children engaging in nature based experiences and contributes to the number of individuals who don’t develop an adequate appreciation for nature and/or suffer the physical and emotional consequences of not enough time in nature. Risky play is about playing freely without adult control and taking some risks that might involve injuring oneself. It's a natural and positive part of children’s play that is crucial for learning how to manage situations, judge dangers and risks for themselves, make mistakes and learn from them, and to develop life skills like how to manage fear and anger, problem solving skills, focus, self discipline, cooperation and self awareness. And because risky play usually involves climbing, balancing, jumping from heights and hanging upside down, it’s also essential for developing motor skills, balance, coordination and body awareness. But risky play is an aspect of our kid’s lives that's gradually been removed. I believe that most kids are naturally good at knowing their capabilities and avoiding risks they aren’t ready to take. I see it in my children all the time so I let them be in charge of their own play as much as possible - I still get freaked out sometimes but for me the benefits of some risky play far outweigh the potential risks. So, for the wellbeing of our children and the wellbeing of the planet we need to immerse our children in nature at every opportunity.
